may poetry party

(bud – the edge of winter/spring)
snowmelt just begun
bursting buds in the plum trees
branches bare no more

(sun)
open prairie, late august
cloudless sky, heat haze,
nothing moving, no sound.
even the imaginary observer
has to shade her eyes

(building)
words are bricks, and a
downtown skyline’s silhouette
can be poetry

Update (July 14, 2008) I linked this post to the readwritepoem blog, where there is a weekly poetry “prompt” inviting people to submit poems on a new theme each week. This week’s theme was summer heat, so I submitted the poem “sun”. (You can read other poets’ submissions on the theme at the blog too.)
