poem: ripples continue

October 19, 2006 Leave a comment Go to comments

ripples in a pond —
the pebble sinks
but the ripples
and are not forgotten

in memory of Bettina6953, an online friend

I also put the same thought into haiku form

still water, small stone:
the pond remembers as the
ripples continue

Update (September 18, 2008) I linked this post to the readwritepoem blog, where there is a weekly poetry “prompt” inviting people to submit poems on a new theme each week. This week’s theme was elegy, poems of mourning or remembrance. (You can read other poets’ submissions on the theme at the blog too.)

Very lovely sentiment for a difficult subject.

Sometimes the more we remember, the ripples become like giant waves.

Very nice haiku… I love “still water, small stone.” Love what Sweet Talking Guy said above, too.
