the fixer-upper

We did have a few things we wanted to fix up in the new house before we moved in, mostly in the living room. Nancy did some paint tests, replacing the burgundy color of the wainscotting with various browns before she settled on a gorgeous caramel color that is almost exactly the same color as the natural wood beams across the ceiling and over the kitchen doorway.

She also replaced the mauvish-gray accent color of the fireplace mantel and trim with a yellow that ties in with the yellows in the kitchen. It all looks great with the bamboo flooring we had put in to replace the original floor and its many layers of gray-blue outdoor deck paint.

Finally in mid-February we moved over from the apartment, and arranged for the rest of our stuff to be brought from storage in California. Over time we’re getting new living room furniture – we have two new armchairs now, and a sofa sleeper on order for mid-April delivery. Once that arrives, we’ll pretty much be ready for guests! :-)
