snow line

Thanksgiving weekend we decided to take the puppies up on nearby Mount Hood, for their first experience with snow. The snow line was down to about 2500 feet, and we stopped at the side of the road to let Hank and Maggie play in the snow. They didn’t quite know what to make of it, until Hank decided that it was fun to dig in, like beach sand :-)

Driving on further on up the mountain, the snowpack was much thicker. It was amazing to think that we were only 30 miles or so from urban Portland!

Not having snow tires and seeing other cars stopping at the side of the road to put on their tire chains, we decided at about the 3000 foot level to turn around. But not before taking some time to enjoy the gorgeous views where the higher slopes of the 11,000 foot high mountain disappeared into the clouds (and get our picture taken by another pair of snow visitors :-)
