Nancy and I joined Chris and Jen for a Saturday afternoon stroll around the narrow streets of San Francisco’s Chinatown.

For Chinese New Year the whole Chinatown neighborhood becomes a big street fair. We did a lot of window shopping in the touristy trinket shops, jewelry stores, and antique stores.

We had dinner at my favorite Chinatown restaurant. For the holiday they had a gigantic dragon in the lobby.

When we got back outside after dinner it was beginning to get dark, and was just about time for the start of the big Chinese New Year parade.

The parade included the usual marching bands, politicians in limos, and floats, but also had kids carrying flags and banners with the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac, stilt walkers, and of course lots and lots of dragons and firecrackers!
