weekend at lake tahoe

Nancy and I drove up to Lake Tahoe for the weekend with our friends Adrian and Felicia. They brought their two black lab dogs Anna and Atlas, and we brought Maggie and Hank. It’s a beautiful drive through the Sierra Nevada mountains to Tahoe, about four hours from the Bay area.

At a local information center we found directions to a dog-friendly park. It was maybe a half mile walk on a trail to the lakeshore. There was a lot of driftwood on the beach, and all four dogs were very eager to play fetch. :-)

Anna was the best retriever. She would run far out into the lake to fetch, while Atlas, Maggie, and Hank tended to stay close to shore. Then when Anna came back with the stick they’d all try to take it away from her to be the one to return it. :-)

As we walked down the beach, we came across a small tree trunk floating close to shore – the motherlode! All four wanted it, and before too long they’d actually managed to pick it up entirely out of the water and carry it onto the beach!

After all that fun, the dogs were ready for a serious nap. :-)

We were staying at a dog-friendly hotel just a short walk from the casinos just over the Nevada border. Nancy and I watched Adrian and Felicia play some of the casino table games and some of the fancy high-tech slot machines. Gambling doesn’t entice me, but the casino did have an excellent all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant!
