beach fun

A typical summer weekend: off to Carmel’s very dog-friendly beach. Hank and Maggie meet lots of new friends, play fetch in the surf, and of course dig lots of holes in the sand. :-)

At its south end, the beach ends in some boulders and a heap of rotting seaweed. It smells pretty bad, so of course the dogs love it!

On the way back up the beach, Hank dragged along his favorite piece of kelp. It was pretty big, so he had to work at it — he was very pleased with himself! :-)

Their first few times at the beach, Maggie and Hank were a little scared of the surf, but now they love to romp around in it and play fetch with their favorite water toy. Maggie especially enjoys this game.

Sometimes (depending on the time of the year?) dolphins swin very near the shore. This particular day, a group of three or four swam along the beach, maybe only 50 feet offshore, then later swam back the opposite direction. Fortunately, I still had a shot of two of film left in the camera!
