Eric’s birthday party

February 21, 1998 Leave a comment Go to comments

We had a birthday party for Eric on Saturday afternoon. Just about the whole gang of locals attended: Eric and Michelle (guests of honor), Mark and Deb, Don, Merwin, and myself. Mark’s coworker Sridhar was able to stop by for a bit. It’s been pretty wet around here recently, so it was nice to spend the day in front of a warm fire with friends.

Deb, our resident grilling expert, took charge of cooking dinner. It was quite a feast: grilled mushrooms, zuchini, eggplant, and potatoes; grilled steak, chicken, and catfish. Thanks, Deb! Don ran the bar, making wonderful Long Island Ice Teas for Eric and me. Merwin brought cheesecake as a special birthday dessert for Eric; Eric loves cheesecake!

We played a game of Scrabble, which Mark won handily. Eric borrowed one of my acoustic guitars, and we played together for a while. He’s been practicing, and is learning fast. Mostly, we all just chatted. In the evening, the power went off for a few hours, but that didn’t stop the party! Listening to the rain and the fire in the company of friends is one of my favorite things!
