happy trails snowshoeing

Nancy and I went snowshoeing again this weekend. Previously, we’ve done our snowshoeing up at Timberline Lodge but yesterday we were turned back at the road junction to Timberline in Government Camp because the parking lot was all full. At first we despaired (OK not really), but then we rallied and did some exploring in the village of GC, and it turns out there are loads of snowshoeing trailheads right there in the village. Not only that, but since way more people ski than snowshoe you don’t have to fight for parking either :-). Easy easy easy.

We walked this lovely trail in the trees that passed by a snow-covered lake. It was beautiful, and the silence while the snow fell was exhilarating. Oh, and we met several people on the trail who had very happy dogs along with them too, so we’re definitely bringing Hank & Maggie next time! :-)

poem: waiting for spring

next to the old stump,
a new-planted cherry tree;
waiting for spring . . .

Our neighbors recently cut down the old cherry tree between our houses. It mostly grew over our front yard and was a big part of our view, but it was rooted on their side and had started to grow into their foundation. We just planted a new little cherry tree in our yard, not far from the old stump. It’s bare now, but I really hope it gets settled in comfortably enough to give us cherry blossoms in its first spring. We’ll see!
